In Matthew 12 Jesus gives us the first key when He declares Himself greater than the Temple, greater than Jonah, greater than Solomon. We call this typology. Jesus is the Great High Priest, the Great Prophet and the Great King. All the characters of the Old Testament are types of Jesus, the Antitypical Priest, Prophet and King.
Jesus Himself provides the second key: Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: We can only appreciate end time prophecy in the light of Old Testament cataclysmic events. The second key is called eschatology.
